Celebrating International Women’s Day 2010 - In Our Own, Oscar Way…

May 14, 2010 Events by Administrator Edit

You know, there are so many reasons & ways to celebrate strong women on this International Women’s Day… We could talk about women leaders through history, strong women who are doing great things today and ways that we women could continue becoming stronger leaders. However, since I’m still marinating in the buzz over last night’s Academy Awards, I thought I’d combine the two and share some of my favorite, fierce and fabulous feminines from yesterday’s red carpet event, I hope you have fun and are also inspired by the works of art some of these women are wearing (images from here):

An Egg-ceptionally Artful Easter

May 14, 2010 Design by Administrator Edit

My husband and I recently purchased our first house together and ever since the closing I’ve been in nesting mode. I want to make it our home… a place for celebrations together. Since we moved in the weekend before Valentine’s Day, I really didn’t get to go all out in festive pink & red decor {next year, watch out Hubs!}. Well, the Easter holiday is quickly approaching and I’d like to do a little to bring the spirit of Spring and Easter into the house.

First step - and family tradition - dyeing Easter eggs. To be quite honest, I actually haven’t dyed any eggs since I was in high school and my parents “made” me do it with my little sister, Lexi. But, now that I’m doing that nesting thing, I wouldn’t love anything more than to introduce some beautiful, holiday-specific decor into our home :-) As I’m perusing the internet to locate the how-to’s of egg dyeing, I’m noticing a theme: Beautiful works of art, in dyed egg form. They’re simply egg-strodinary! Here are a few works of Easter egg art I’d like to share with you:

This amazing egg was created by wrapping natural items, such as flowers, onion peel and leaves, then boiling the egg.

Jonathan Adler Featured in the May 2010 Issue of Elle Decoration

May 14, 2010 Artists by Administrator Edit

We’re all pretty big fans of Jonathan Adler and his signature style around here! Not only is he an artist with Artaissance, with a collection featuring more than 20 works of art, he also worked with Larson-Juhl  designers to create the Thornhill collection of custom picture frame mouldings.Adler’s own boudoir might be my very favorite space in the apartment. I’m loving the warm, putty-like gray color on the walls. It plays the perfect  background to these fabulous tangerine and robins egg blue colors. I especially like how well these patterns meld together - who ever thought a hexagonal carpet would work so well with that fabulously exciting damask textile?!? Apparently Jonathan Adler did…

Adler’s opulent bathroom pays homage to Hermes and  the “big H” plays a prominent role above the commode.
